Google is working on a new desktop mode function for Android, will turn smartphones and tablets into devices like PCs. The desktop mode, noted in the Beta version of Android 16, allows you to launch applications in free -change windows, such as Windows or MacOS interface.
Users can drag applications, change their size and use the control panel to navigate. Functions, so far available through the developer's hidden option, including the title table with buttons to shoot, deploy and close windows, as well as support the image in the image mode for applications like YouTube.
Unlike Samsung Dex, which has provided the same experience on the top Galaxy, the Google desktop mode is still in the early stages and is designed to test developers. However, improvements, such as supporting DisplayPort via USB-C and Windows Minimize, shows that Google is striving to compete. It is expected that a complete release may take place with Android 16 in 2026
