American scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have achieved a breakthrough in quantum physics, for the first time receiving images of individual atoms that are free to interact in space. The study was published in the Journal of Science and Physics (PRL).
To do this, the team developed a new technique of atomic microscopes, in which the atoms were kept in a laser trap, where they could freely interact. A special lighting network “freezing” their movement. The thinly adjusted lasers highlight the atoms, allowing you to fix their position to naturally dispersed.
Now we can see how the atoms operate in the real space, and not only calculate their assets, Professor Martin Zvirlyine, the leading author of the study explained.
Experiments show that Boson (for example, sodium atoms) show a group, confirming the ability to share a quantum wave (BROIL effect). And fermines (lithium atoms) formation – a major mechanism of superconducting.
These processes have been predicted in theoretical, but never directly observed.
