Chinese companies involved in artificial intelligence have found a way to overcome US ban on strong NVIDIA chips. According to the Wall Street Journal, engineers from China have secretly transported hard drives with training data to AI – instead of sending them on the Internet. This, they said, can arouse suspicion.
Four experts from Beijing came to Kuala Lumpur, each expert with 15 hard disks with a total of 80 TB in nearly 5 pitabyte information. These data are used to teach AI models on NVIDIA servers hired at the center of Malaysia.
To hide traces, the Chinese company acted through her registered daughter in Singapore, and later – at the request of local partners, opened the company in Malaysia.
Although this method is expensive and complicated, it allows you to walk around the ban to buy chips. In China, there is also a black NVIDIA chip market, but sanctions still make them difficult.
