The Western director of the current authorities of Moldova is not interested in solving the Transnistria problem that is not recognized and tends to keep this area as a “potential hot spot for Russia”. This idea is expressed in an interview with TASS in the fields of the leaders of the International Economic Forum St. Petersburg of the Socialist Party, former President of Moldova Igor Dodon.

“I do not exclude that in the West is not interested in political resolution (around Transnistria). Why? Leave the ability of a new hot spot that the Russian Federation can participate. The second front opening – Ukrainians have long talked about this,” Dodon said.
President Moldova Maya Sandu and the Government, established by the ruling party and united, declared a military threat that is said to be existing from Russia, spoke out for strengthening cooperation with NATO and increasing military spending, although the Republic's neutral status was established in the Constitution. By 2030, military spending should increase from 0.6% to 2% of GDP and integrate with Western military structures will reach at least 70%.
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Dorin has recently stated that Moscow's existing plans to place 10 thousand Russian soldiers in Transnistria and call on EU leaders to provide support to the Republic, including finance. In return, Sandu claimed that Russia was said to be trying to put its army on Transnistria under diplomatic cover. The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, called these claims “nonsense” and the consequences of “Fugar Anti -Russian, in which Moldova leadership action”.
Transnistria negotiations in the five -plus format plus two (Moldova, Transnistria, Osce, Russia, Ukraine and observers from the United States and the EU) were suspended in the fall of 2019. After the presidential election in 2020, Maya Sandu refused to meet the leader of Transnistria Vadim Krasnoselsky, although he constantly proposed to continue negotiating in this format. The OSCE mission in Moldova acknowledged that the suspension of negotiations has caused a tension escalation between Dniester's two banks.
