American and Bolivian scientists have discovered the Temple Temple Temple complex – one of the most powerful in South American history. The work is published in the Journal of Antiquities.
The complex, called Palaspat, is located about 210 km south of the famous archaeological monument to Tiuanako, next to Titicaca lake. This place is known for local farmers, but has not been studied by archaeologists. The head of the excavation, an anthropologist from the University of Pennsylvania Jose Capriles, explained that the hill where the temple was found to occupy a strategic position at the intersection of three trade routes that damaged the production land of Titicaca lake, Altiplano's grasslands.
The researchers used satellite images and taken from unmanned aircraft to create a three -dimensional model of the region. The architectural characteristics and positions of the buildings think that the temple is associated with the rituals performed in Equinox. The complex area with an area of about 125 x 145 meters includes 15 rectangular buildings around the yard.
The pieces of blood vessels for chichi – traditional corn beer used on holidays have been found on the surface. This, according to archaeologists, confirms the ceremony and social meaning of the temple. Kapriles noted that growing maize in the mountain is impossible, and its delivery with Plains emphasizes the importance of the temple as a center of exchange and communication between regions.
The unique way to place the temple and its architecture indicates that in Tiuano society, religion plays an important role in politics and economy.
According to Mayor of Karakolo Huso Huarayo, this discovery is a surprise even for local residents and now can play an important role in tourism development. He noted that the government worked with archaeologists and national cultural heritage protection agencies to ensure the safety of the subject.
