Australian archaeologists from the University of Sydney were found in the blue mountains in the east of the country, which found evidence of the ancient high -end settlements of the last gang. This discovery switches to ideas about ancient Aboriginal life in harsh conditions. The study was published in the Journal of Human behavior Science (NHB).
The team studied Dargan's shelter – a stone refugee at an altitude of 1073 meters above sea level, serving as an important stop for ancient Australian residents 22,000 years ago. Despite the harsh climate with seasonal frosts, this place has been visited by many people.
Excavations revealed 693 stone antiques, including instruments for more than 16,000 years, as well as ancient cave paintings – children's palms and forearms. Special interest is the findings indicating remote relationships: some materials from Jenolan cave (50 km) and Hunter valley (150 km).
A coal's radiocarbon analysis showed that the shelter was actively used in the period of 22-19 thousand years ago. Among the unique findings are a grinding plate (13,000 years) and a basalt threat to handle nuts (8.8 thousand years).
