Google actively develops the operating board mode for Android operating system. This opportunity is designed to give users the same experience as working at a personal computer, like Samsung Dex or Motorola Smart Connect Solutions. This has been reported by the GSMarena publication.
The trace of such functions was discovered in Android code in 2023, however, clearly, the development has approached the release phase. However, there is a report that the user interface (UI) of the regime so far requires improvement and its escape in Android 16 is impossible. The most likely period of the appearance of the function is Android 17 release, perhaps, launching in the next generation of smartphones Pixel.
The mentioned mode is called Android desktop mode and is expected to provide some useful opportunities. Among them: full multitasking with Windows changing applications, navigation elements familiar with the board operating system, application management systems like Windows or Chrome OS, as well as smooth switching between mobile interface and desktops when connected to the external screen.
Initially, the function will be activated when connecting the phone to the external screen via USB-C port. However, assumptions are given to the possible support of future wireless connectivity, with the presence of such an option in competitive solutions from Samsung and Motorola.
It is also assumed that when starting, the function can become exclusive to Google Pixel devices before appearing on other Android smartphones.
