Scientists from the Inorganic Chemistry Institute of SB RAS have developed to create graphene diagrams directly on the surface of the diamond. This discovery can help create new, reliable and cheaper electronic devices.
Diamond – an excellent insulating against harsh conditions and graphene – very good conductive conductivity. By combining these materials, you can receive reliable microchips: Diamonds will be isolated and graphene is electricity.
Typically, Graphene is difficult to attach to diamonds, but Siberian scientists have found a way to put it directly on the surface. To do this, a thin layer of metal is applied to diamonds (for example, nickel or iron), then heated. Under the influence of the temperature, the metal has pulled carbon atoms from diamonds and a thin layer of graphene that appears on the surface.
There is a second way – the impact of laser. It immediately heated the surface, creating the conductive area of the desired shape.
Such technology can be used not only in electronic devices, but also in optics – for example, for light filters. This method is simple, cheap and suitable for mass production.
