The popular YouTube video service has updated the mobile application for iOS, released version 20.22.1. Now, to install it and operate correctly, it is necessary to have iOS 16 and above. This change, as Macrumors wrote, requires an official support for some outdated iPhone models.
Specifically, smartphones cannot be updated to iOS 16 excluded from the list of supported devices. They include iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, First, iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone SE. Also, from now on the application will not work on the iPod touch of the seventh generation.
Similar changes affect the YouTube version for iPad. Now, the tablet application requires iPados 16 or new, which means termination of support for models of iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 4.
Users who own the listed devices can still access the YouTube content via the web browser by accessing the mobile version of the service.
According to demand, by 2025, more than 1.38 billion iPhone users worldwide. At the same time, the remote deck statistics say that about 1% of users occupy the iOS 15 or higher versions of this OS. Therefore, it can be assumed that the YouTube app has stopped working at about 13.8 million outdated iPhones.
